Thanks but I'm not sure this would let you distinguish between two totally
different devices that both happen to use an FTDI chip. Under udev, you get a
device manufacturer string and serial number off the FTDI chip.
I did look through the usbserial source code and found the place where it comes
up with the /dev string and it looks like the hardware information is available
at that point so I think I could hack it that way.
