Hi everyone, nice discussion going there.

Janne Kario:
It was easy for you to get a recent EABI kernel/debian and use it? Where did
you get that? Hobbyist or not, as I said before, you can't use "aptitude
install qt4-dev-tools" (or any other package) with the provided TS EABI debian
rootfs and compile things with it, cause libc versions mismatch. Not using
their packages is even harder, you will pass months patching various things.

Gary Wicker:
You mentioned "bleeding edge and latest-and-greatest software". Of course our
goal is not to have the latest beta version release of every softwares just for
the fun of seeing high numbers. I think EABI is pretty common and every
embedded board should use it nowadays. It's not a high-end user special
feature, it's a mainstream feature that you can't really bypass if you want to
use your board correctly. As you said, since you use TS-7250s, you don't do
graphics and that might explain why you don't think the same way.

Steve Pisciotta:
Learning to use gfx api (allegro, dfb, qt, sdl, gtk, etc) is kinda easy.
Compiling a rootfs for executing them at the fastest speed on an embedded board
using cross-compiler or not is another story. At least for me.

PeterElliot:
Nice! I would love to see how your application look. But seriously, do you
think it's normal that you had to create your own gfx api? Your own touchscreen
and serial handler? How long did it takes? It's an open source world, with tons
of already functioning applications developed to help you at this matter. Let's
say I want to develop a windows video game, it would be strange to map myself
on video card registers and bypass directx. Same principle occurs here. Also,
you mentioned every time you contacted TS they have been helpful? I contacted
them once, asking why they don't provide a working EABI rootfs for gfx
applications a month ago, and still waiting for an answer.

Anyway, as you you can in my previous posts since 2 months, we first started
developing a GTK application on X, because that's what TS publicity mention for
the normal 7390 board utilization. We knew it was too slow for commercial
purpose, but though it could be optimized later on. I then stumbled on this
forum, learned about EABI and crunch and though this was the path to follow.
Then learned that crunch gives more headaches than improvements. I'm still
trying as hard as I can to get a system running X/GTK+ for armv4t, and after
trying many many different ways still can't get anything working. I guess I
could pay a company to do it, but still find this abnormal.
