Yes.

No, although occasionally it will boot fine and then drop into the 
message loop and ultimately die a few seconds later.

Interestingly, when I turn on CONFIG_USB_DEBUG the problem goes away.  
Of course, that floods my kmesg buffer and eats CPU time, so I'd prefer 
not to do that.

But that suggests there's a race condition somewhere in the code.
