Hi Robert,
The beagleboard is interesting. The main thing that stopped me getting one
previously is the lack of on-board Ethernet. I know you can easily add a USB to
Ethernet adapter, but the system layout starts getting messy.
If all you want is to mess with Linux, buying an EeePC or similar would be the
cheapest approach - depending on I/O interfacing - as you can get a Linux EeePC
type device for around $179 with an 8.9" screen (as they can't sell them easily
in the stores). There's no way an embedded board would be able to match it on
price.
However, for the work I do the Technologic Systems board have worked very well
(other than a few struggles with the Bat3 board) and I would not hesitate in
recommending them to anyone.
