Eugene,

There are three tasks of interest that might be enumerated as follows:

1) Setting up the TS7300 environment for fpga development

2) Custom fpga development

3) Using the arm-based linux system to communicate with the
fpga-implemented device(s)

Your first objective: "implementing the AND gate" only requires items
1 and 2. Understanding the wishbone bridge only applies to item 3. So,
initially, you may ignore the wishbone bridge scheme.

After you implement the AND gate, you may use various pins on the
dio1/dio2 header as inputs (some pins will be at 3.3V and some at
ground). You will connect these pins to the gate inputs and observe
the gate outputs with a meter or logic probe (you might need a pull-up
resistor to observe a high state - I don't remember).

Note that you must choose to create a .rbf output file from the altera
fpga tools. This file is copied via scp to the TS7300 and loaded into
the fpga using a TS supplied utility.

When you want to affect the fpga from the arm cpu (like writing into
fpga-implemented registers and such) you need to understand the
function of the wishbone bridge.

The wishbone bridge is implemented as fpga code itself and produces a
slave-access environment from the perspective of fpga-implemented
devices that you might create. That is, it produces various bus
signals that other fpga code may monitor and to which it may respond
as different actions (like read and write) are initiated by the arm
cpu. The wishbone specification (available as a pdf document on the
opencore website) describes these signals as they relate to read and
write cycles from a bus master (i.e. the arm cpu) and defines
precisely how the slave (i.e. the fpga-implemented registers) must
respond. In addition, the fpga may initiate an interrupt which also
requires adherence to the wishbone-specified interrupt bus cycle protocol.
