on the ep9301:
timer1 is allocated by the kernel for scheduling.
timer2 and timer3 are free and available to the user, check the ep9301
manual for  IRQ numbers and register addresses.
timer 4 is a 40 bit timer, but is generally used for debugging.
The control/status registers for all timers can be accessed by the
/dev/mem mechanism described in the TS manuals.
I've written a little driver that makes accessing timers convenient
but it's not quite polished yet...
