I've found that there is an incompatibility with the MTD stuff in the
2.4 and 2.6 ts kernels. A yaffs fileystem created and written in 2.4
will not be readable with a 2.6 kernel.
The upshot of this is that I have to create the filesystem with the
kernel version I intend to use to access it.
So to create a 2.6-accessible mtd yaffs partition, boot to 2.6, mount
the yaffs filesystem (no files will be seen, but you might have to
delete a lot of things from lost and found). Then rewrite the entire
filesystem. Your filesystem will be accessible from 2.6 now and not 2.4.
