minicom should work... it does for me on my 7800...
HOWEVER, you must turn off Hardware flow control, enabled by default,
as that will hang it up every time.

Also...
My modem doesn't do well auto adjusting to the serial port bit rate
when hooked up to the 7800 (though it does fine on a windows pc).
