For what it is worth, I have had trouble using bootload with rtai-enabled kernels... although I've never had an issue for the "normal" kernels. Have you tried to load the rtai-enabled kernel from redboot? Or use nfs? It seems you are on the right track... downloading the kernel, modules, and rtai stuff with all the same reference (AFAIK, the ts11 shipped with the units does not support rtai, so you do have to download and install the stuff from the ftp site).
