First suggestion - save yourself tons of
frustration and don't use
Hyperterminal for direct serial connections.
Hyperterminal is finicky with direct serial port connections. I see this all
the time with our company's proprietary industrial control computers - we
have diagnostic tools that distinctly show we are connected, and that data
being sent from hyperterminal is showing up on our system and that we're
responding, but for some reason, hyperterminal doesn't acknowledge the
connection. Hyperterminal is fine with phone connections, but it hiccups too
often on direct serial connections to be reliable.
Our service department spent so many hours troubleshooting problems
regarding serial connectivity for customers that ultimately came back to
hyperterminal that I was forced to find alternatives to recommend. Secure
Token and Token2 Plus to be specific, both available at www.choung.net but
there are other good alternatives out there as well. I won't even
troubleshoot serial port connectivety problems for our customers any more if
they are using Hyperterminal - I advise them to get another terminal program
before I'll help them further - this solves some 80-90% of serial port
communications problems I see with our equipment, and has cut our call
volume noticeably.

Subject: [ts-7000] Startup problem TS-7250
Hello,
I am a new user so a have some pretty "stupid" questions. I do not
have a serial port on my computer so I bought a usb-RS-232
converter.
Now when I set everything in HyperTerminal as instructed in TS-7250
startup manual and connect the card with the serial cable to my comp
and the power on I do not get anything on my HyperTerminal window.
What could be the problem. I saw that people say it is better to use
linux then windows when connecting and working whit TS-7250 as it
runs
on linux, what distribution would you recommend for me to install on
my computer?
Thank you very much.
