Dear Phil and Dustin, First of all thanks for your prompt reply. Yes, as you said there was a conflict between the serial port and the console which I used in the program. In /etc/inittab , I commented the line : lgn1:12345:respawn:/sbin/getty -L 115200 ttyAM1 ( as I used serial port2 for receiving data from GPS receiver). with '#' and it worked fine. You have also made some good suggestions for the code which I am using...Will surely take care of them. thanks, Susheel
