Now THAT'S an exciting idea... a dot-matrix printer with a USB to
parallel adapter.  I did a quick search for the adapters and they seem
to be plentiful, but they all say "plug-and-play" so I guess they ship
with Windows drivers.  I'm going to look further to see if any come
with Linux drivers.

We have the luxury of being able to sell a dedicated printer with our
machine so we only have to support the printer(s) that we specify.  We
are trying to keep the costs down too though.
