Well, it's cheaper to put it in software, and performance be damned.  :-(

OOOF!  I did a quickie search and found some dot-matrix impact
printers pretty cheap - but they're all parallel port interface.

The USB interface is $$$!!!!  Methinks you could pick up a USB -
parallel adapter for a few $.

The cheapest USB dot-matrix printer that tigerdirect shows is ~ $400....
