You might try looking for "thermistor" instead of "thermocouple".

I used to use the "outdoor" probe of a Radio Shack indoor/outdoor
thermometer in my aquarium.  It was submerged more-or-less continuously
for several years with no problem.  I don't have the aquarium any more,
but I still use that thermometer.  

You can buy similar devices sold as "probes" for industrial applications,
though I haven't seen prices recently.
