Sometimes it's hard to use only a specific linux kernel. I was all for
using the 2.6.19, but then because of the changes in the block device
structures I could not longer patch against 2.6.19 with the yaffs code.
Since the yaffs people have started moving towards the newer structures,
I was forced to move as well. Although I would have happily stayed at
2.6.19, so I hear your woes.

If you re-format the flash to use jffs or j2ffs then that would probably
allow you to stick with 2.6.18, but it will also mean that you'd have to
manually patch for all future code improvements to the rest of the
relevent space in your kernel.
