I haven't been following this thread, but ...

The Linksys NLSU2 (referred to as the 'slug') Linux
group does use apt-get (on the Debian firmware anyway),
along with a bunch of other seemingly useful development
tools (open-embedded tools)... but I haven't had time
to investigate :)
