Perhaps you can answer or comment on the following ... :)
I believe the reason TS signed on for the SD card spec, was so
that it could access the faster parallel interface to the SD card.
However, there is also support for SPI-like serial mode for
these cards.

a few days ago:

I haven't looked at the spec or cards in detail.
However, it would seem likely that someone could generate
an open-source SD-card interface for the TS boards. The
caveat of course would be that the interface was slower.
But perhaps this would not be an issue for some people.
Just wondering if anyone has played with this alternative
interface.
