You were both right; I forgot to remove the jumper. :)
Next issue;
Some modules don't seem to load anymore on start-up (e.g. usb
modules). I've added them to the rcS.sysinit file in the right order,
but despite the fact that module zdb.o is loaded now, the start-up
process fails to initialize wlan0. (SIOCGIFINDEX failed!: no such
device).
The strange thing is that it does work well if I enter 'ifconfig wlan0
up' immediately after logging in as root.
(BTW, initializing wlan0 during start up does work well with the
fastboot prompt).
