Hi

I tried dmesg and cat /proc/partitions but neither of them is aware of USB.

Is there any hotplug dameon that I have to install ?

Hi, have you tried the command "dmesg"?
dmesg should tell you what it's called. Look for example at my log
below, my disk is called sdb1.

For a list of partitions that the kernel knows about you may use:
"cat /proc/partitions"
