AFAIK zd1211rw is a different code base. That is, it is a fork of the vendor
driver. They forked the project to get the driver merged into the mainline 
kernel. The code available at http://zd1211.ath.cx/ is the vendor
driver.

I may be wrong, where did you find information stating zd1211-r78 and 
newer are zd1211rw?
