FWIW: I'm using a zd1211b with driver release r83 (from zd1211.ath.cx, see that one for more info) in 'Managed' mode and that works just fine. Kernel is (based on) 2.4.25-ts11.

I'll try ad-hoc mode later and let you know what happens.

Be sure to check if you've got a zd1211 or a zd1211b and use the proper driver.
