You would be very welcome to use my control engine that can turn an SBC into an RTU, with standard configuration of input/output types (DI/DO/AI/AO), object scripting language, control objects, extensible through adding object types written in C++, etc. It is written in C/C++. The idea is to create an environment where non programming types can configure basic input/output, data logging, and can create sequences. Programming/control experts can create new objects written in C++ for those things that can not be done with standard object types and scripting language.
Drivers and end-user object types are loaded dynamically using the same method as for Apache Modules. There are many possible areas where you could use this such as batch control, testing, data logging, control of temperature/flow/speed/etc. I also plan to add a driver for one of the zigbee devices supported by TS to do networks of sensors. This could open up some interesting applications, such as managing energy usage at hotels. You might consider an application to reduce energy usage at your university. Don.
