The MaxStream radios do work fine as
802.15.4 radios. I’m using a lot of them and ignoring the ZigBee mess.
Enjoy,

802.15.4/zigbee
I talked to the people at
Maxstream today, and they admitted right away that products are not
interchangeable from different vendors right now, not their standard zigbee
transmitter, nor the pro model.
So, anybody wanting to be an early adoptor, should plan on buying from a single
vendor for right now.

We've already built this exact PC104 board. We've been

it for almost 3 months already (temporarily distracted by some other
projects). We should have our first production run in later this
week. We'll be updating our website with the exact features shortly.
The board we've built accepts either the AeroComm 900Mhz radio
modems or the Maxstream zigbee ones. We're also building a TS-7400
based carrier board that includes identical functionality. It
basically just shows up as a serial port to Linux (/dev/ttyTS*).
