I forgot to mention, the Speech Recognition engines from these companies come with a database that is really really good, worth every penny. If that is not an option, then you might want to do DTMF detection based menus..

Hi Yan,

Yes this is indeed possible, however I would strongly suggest going with a commercial ARM9 port of a good Speech Recognition engine. The issue is that while you only need to recognize 20 commands, you probably will not be training the Speech Recognition Engine on the voice of the user. If you go with a popular Speech Recognition Engine, you will have the opportunity to do what is called "Dialog Management", which really increases your speech recognition rate and also allows you to plan out the Dialog you want your users to have with your system. The leaders in this field would be Harman-Becker, Temic, IBM or Dragon Speech. They will charge you an initial licencing agreement but after that it is really good, we are talking 1-2$ licencing fee per unit.

Don't go the DIY route, it will not be very good.

I've just been asked if it would be possible to control our board via
voice over phone.... So that a customer could call his machine, and,
via a simple voice menu, get status, pick a program, and start and
stop the machine.

We're talking a total of maybe 20 words that would have to be recognized.

ISTR some discussion on voice recognition here in the past, but yahoo
search didn't come up with anything....

Anyone know if it is possible on a ts7xx0?  If so, any ideas or pointers?
