I run service for an industrial controller that can use RS232 port and a
terminal emulator such as Hyperterminal for communications. Over the years,
I've found that Hyperterminal is very, very, very weak with direct serial
connections. It will quite often connect to our equipment, but fail to pass
info sent back to it to the screen. I no longer recommend using it to my
customers who want to link directly via serial port. Plus, getting support
for Hyperterminal itself is impossible unless you buy their professional
version.
I would recommend a different terminal program, such as Token2 Plus
