Local echo should be off. The keys you key at the keyboard get sent to the
ts7xxx and what you see is what the board echos. Hyperterminal is probably
waiting for CTS or DTR/DSR on the interface before it sends. Never having
used this program I'm not sure how to configure it.
But if the original poster wants to wield a soldering iron, you can patch
the 9 pin rs232 connector that plugs into the PC by join pins 6 (DSR),1
(DCD) & 4 (DTR) together and join pins 7 (CTS) & 8 (RTS) together.
