Hi All,

why do we have such a bulky REAL TIME CLK on the 7250 BOARD?
can't we do our task with a smaller chip...somethink similar to one in a cellphone..

and where does the chip gets its power from.. do i need a battery on the dev. board so that the RTC can function and show me the right time when i switch it on...

Chill,
Joel.

Hi Joel,

The real time clock module allows the TS-7xxx to know the actual
time/date (give or take a few minutes) even after power has been
removed. As far as I can see most network/internet connected boards
can pull the actual ti! me from a time server on the internet. However,
if there is no internet connection to the unit it would default to a
point in time (12:00am Jan 1st 1980 for a lot of systems) every time
it powered up.

It would definately be something I would specify on a TS-7xxx unless
I know it wouldn't be need - for example if the system performed a
fixed task and did not log error data with a timestamp.

I'm not sure what you can do if you decide you want the clock. You
probably could solder RTC onto your board, or you could buy the
PC/104 RTC used by the TS-7200.

Hope this helped.

Regards,

Peter
