The answer is yes, the application can read the port to get the
current state. I uploaded an example program that flips a bit in
response to pressing keys 0-7 (you have to also press Enter after the
digit). The bits are displayed as 1's and 0's, so you don't have to
mentally convert from hex to binary. :)
You can also press A, B, or C to choose the port to test. If you want
to change the card (i.e., for the base address selection), you'll have
to do that in the source code and recompile.
Press X to exit the program.
