It's not only you ;)

On my CF Debian sarge image, I completely turned off devfs. Sometimes
devfs is much more pain than heaven (and maybe that's why it was
abandoned), besides requiring another process running on the system.

BTW, there is a problem recompiling the ts8 kernel without devfs. Some
serial line code (can't remember the exact file) is missing the macros
to check for devfs support and breaks the compilation process.
