Hi all,

Since I'm one of the parties who started this thread, I guess I should
clarify a few things ...

1) Jesse, I'm sorry if my initial post sounded at all cynical or
condescending. My intent was not to ruffle feathers, but merely to
get a discussion started on creating a 2.6 alternative for the TS
boards - perhaps not one officially supported by TS, and for which TS
would officially be responsible for support. If we (this group) took
responsibility for such a project, with contrbiutions / guidance from
TS as appropriate, the result would be that there are three Linux
alternatives for TS72xx users, including the release version and the
RTAI version. I'm contemplating something similar to, or even better
in collaboration with, Michael Burian's "unofficial Cirrus EP93xx 2.6
support" (http://members.inode.at/m.burian/ep93xx/). Freedom to
choose ...

2) Jesse mentioned the "religion" or "fad" aspect of 2.6 interest.
That undoubtedly exists, as does interest in the O(1) and low latency
features. There are other motivations for interest in 2.6, however -
and I don't care to disclose mine at the moment. Whatever the
motivation, the availability of a 2.6 alternative for those who feel
they need it will strengthen the TS72xx, and will probably strengthen
the 2.4 branch as well through exchange of ideas.

3) While my principal motivation for requesting a reproduceable
provenance for the TS 2.4 release was to use it as a template for
creating a 2.6 system, publishing a reproduceable patch chain is a
"good thing" in any case. For example, if I wished to apply some
kernel patch to the TS kernel, an traceable patch chain would help in
determining if is feasible in the first place and in solving problems
should they occur.
