Hello,
I am facing a very strange problem (which does sound stupid to me as
well....but can't help it) :
First some intro to put things in perspective - I have developed
a data acquisition system based on the TS7200 and I am using
Compact flash to store data acquired from various sensors -
now to the problems I am facing:
Pbm 1: I have four makes of compact flash cards: SanDisk, NCP,
Kingston, and Transcend. All are of size 512MB. The IDE
controller on the TS7200 recognises NCP, Kingston and
Transcend but just doesn't recognise the SanDisk. I have
two CF cards of SanDisk make. I tried with both and both
are not recognised by the IDE controller.
However, all the other makes are recognised by the IDE
controller and I am able to mount those CF cards. I
viewed all the cards using a card reader on a Windows
system. I found something different with SanDisk. All
other makes (apart from SanDisk) showed 'free space'
as 487MB whereas SanDisk showed 494MB. Could there be
something different with respect to SanDisk?
I also know that SanDisk is what is supplied by default
by T-Systems with their products and is one of the most
reliable brands, but I am facing this strange problem.
Am I doing something wrong?
Pbm 2: When I use the other makes (not Sandisk), I am 'mount'ing
these CF cards as 'vfat' type file systems. Most of the
times it does work, but sometimes, after a reboot, it fails
to mount the CF card. Pls note: It detects the CF card, but
it fails to mount it. I get some weird behaviour, for .e.g:
the file system is shown to be mounted as 'rw' but when I
try to write it fails. Sometimes it fails during 'mount'ing.
If I take the CF card and reformat it from a Windows system,
and then put it back in my product it does start working.
But then again after sometime, I do face the same problem.
I suspected that it could be a problem with the make of the
CF card and went in for SanDisk (as this is supplied by
T-Systems) and then I landed up with 'Pbm 1' (above).
Is this behaviour (Pbm 2) due to the fact I am 'mount'ing
as a 'vfat' filesystem? Should I reformat the CF as 'ext2'
and mount it as 'ext2'? Doesn't the TS7200 MTD drivers
support 'vfat' on CF cards reliably?
Thanking you all in anticipation and looking forward to your responses.
Thanks and with regards,
- Nagi
