Mplayer should support V4L2 also, but mplayer has lots of bugs (crashing
on me all the time) so it is not very usable.

Somehow mplayer thinks pwc driver is missing something crucial for V4L2
support:

$ mplayer -tv driver=v4l2:device=/dev/video1:fps=15:width=640:height=480 tv://
MPlayer 1.0pre7-3.4.3 (C) 2000-2005 MPlayer Team
...

Playing tv://.
Cache fill: 0.00% (0 bytes) TV detected! ;-)
Selected driver: v4l2
 name: Video 4 Linux 2 input
 author: Martin Olschewski <>
 comment: first try, more to come ;-)
v4l2: ioctl get standard failed: Invalid argument
MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: demux_open
- MPlayer crashed by bad usage of CPU/FPU/RAM.
  Recompile MPlayer with --enable-debug and make a 'gdb' backtrace and
  disassembly. Details in DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports_what.html#bugreports_crash.
- MPlayer crashed. This shouldn't happen.
...blah blah blah....
