A bit of internet searching, and I think I'm about to purchase a prebuild p=
iezo amplifier (link here: http://stompville.co.uk/?p=3D1158 http://stompvi=
lle.co.uk/?p=3D1158) A bit pricey at =A317 for just the module, but to be h=
onest by the time I ordered the discrete components, plus protoboard to sol=
der them on to, it probably won't be far off that considering minimum compo=
nent orders etc. Plus my time to put it together. So I think I'll probably=
just order the piezo preamp ready built. I will need to furnish an enclosu=
re for it though.=0D
=0D
With regards to the hydrophone and it's housing, I stumbled across this rat=
her interesting page on the COSEE TEK website:=0D
=0D
http://www.coseetek.net/resources/index.cfm?FuseAction=3DShowResourceDetail=
s&ResourceID=3D670 http://www.coseetek.net/resources/index.cfm?FuseAction=
=3DShowResourceDetails&ResourceID=3D670, which has also got a build video f=
or an piezo element hydrophone.=0D
=0D
Interestingly, the way they construct it is to put a felt pad over the silv=
er side of the piezo element, then the interior of the enclosure is filled =
with epoxy so that brass side of the piezo is "exposed", then just a thin l=
ayer of epoxy to seal the exposed copper.=0D
=0D
So I think I may do something similar, I'm certainly glad I ordered 5 piezo=
elements, as so far I've knackered the silver coating on two of them tryi=
ng to solder wires to them. The third one I go the audio cable soldered, b=
ut I've since covered the silver side of the piezo with a thin layer of epo=
xy... So I won't have any air gap... =0D
=0D
Anyway, I'm glad to have found that coseetek site, as I had planned on glui=
ng the peizo to the inside of a plastic plumbin end cap, which would mean a=
~2mm layer of plastic between the copper side of the piezo, and the water.=
...=0D
=0D
So I'll rethink my enclosure - thankfully I bought a few spare plastic plum=
bing endcaps etc.
