Also, becasue of the nature of its signal and its relatively shallow marine=
 environment, the sound of the insect doesn=92t carry very far. The snappin=
g shrimp, by contrast, puts out a signal so loud that it momentarily stuns =
prey (usually fish) as they swim by. The shrimp=92s targets are immobilized=
 long enough for the shrimp to snag a bite of lunch from the caudal or dors=
al fin, for example.
