To come back to earlier remarks about transporting a SASS, I find it not
too bad - at least the foam DIY variant I have based off Vicki's very
helpful site. Perhaps my version has turned out a bit smaller than what
they usually are but it's still fairly bulky. Yet I can fit it easily into
a hand luggage-compatible backpack together with my Double MS setup (using
a Cinela system), plus a bunch of mics, hard drives, headphones, cables and
laptop.
The key is however that my backpack opens up like a suitcase, eg all the
way along the top, side and bottom.
It's a bit of Tetris but it allows me to bring my most valued recording
rigs everywhere with me, including any air travel.
For me personally, the farther I travel, the less I want to only take a
tiny / lightweight but ultimately compromising (from a quality POV) rig
with me, because I might never go back to that place again.
Here's a picture for whoever is interested
