I'll correct an error and say a little more.....

I should have said Canon S30 ( or S35) speaker cabinet.

I find the Shure MX391 omni microphones to have a huge amount of low freque=
ncy energy. They are only moderately hiss free.

I have to use a 'regime' with the recordings I make with them. This regime =
is 3 ( so far ) custom settings for the parametric equaliser in my editor. =
They are all variations on a drastic suck-out of low energy and a smooth di=
p through the hiss frequencies. I would simply use "lo-cut" on the recorder=
but that quite sharp drop out of low frequencies loses too much informatio=
n for my liking.

I bought a pair of Primo 172 capsules a while ago but I've still not got ar=
ound to using them. I expect that they are going to be a shade quieter than=
the shures, when I do eventually try them. I've no idea what to expect at =
the low frequency end of things but a break from having to process hi bitra=
te files on my elderly PC would be very welcome.

I should also mention that more often than not, I use a FEL BMA2 PIP(5v) pr=
e-amp, into the LINE input of the M10. It's quieter than the M10 pre which =
is no slouch itself. I'm keen on the 5v PIP idea too. If it had the ability=
to switch off mic power and also switch out low energy in a couple of prof=
ile choices, it would be functionally perfect. It seems Fel no longer make =
it, so I'm hardly guilty of product placement.

Anyway, the biggest thing I've learned so far is that I get far better reco=
rdings if I'm nowhere around while it's going on.

norman.
