Hi Flawn,=0D
Many thanks for your reply. I'm really impressed with the detail you go int=
o! As I've just posted to Scott, I'm not certain if this mic was originally=
for use with an XLR pair, or a single stereo plug. If anybody on the list =
knows for sure I'd be very happy to hear. I appreciate your info on earthin=
g and shielding.=0D
Yes, the mic is battery powered, and the width control is a continuous adju=
stment from zero to 150. I forgot to turn the pause off when I first adjust=
ed it (wearing headphones) and discovered it crackled badly, so your assess=
ment that it might need need some turning to clear off corrosion could be c=
orrect. I toyed with the idea of spraying some electrical contact spray in,=
but haven't decided yet. On this subject, yes, I did try various positions=
for this pan adjustment, but all appeared to be the same at a cursory glan=
ce. I have two or three stereo mics, and with those (at least the AT8022 an=
d AT825) the difference between left and right is very obvious, so the mono=
-like response from this mic seems very odd to me. I'm beginning to suspect=
that I've wasted my money, but I'll play around a bit more with it, perhap=
s using a higher frequency tone, and maybe spray the pan pot, although even=
if I get rid of the noise I don't see that it'll cure the main problem?=0D
Re the barrel of the mic, it's very large comparative to other common mics =
we use, so I'd have to be creative in supporting it!=0D
All the best=0D
