Here is how I would approach the question. Build container. Drill small hol=
e in side of container and insert metal probe-end of meat thermometer, eith=
er digital or analog type. Put recorder into container as you envision it. =
Set system into operation. Monitor the temperature. If everything is fine, =
you have no problem.
If temperature elevates considerably, modify container by fastening heat si=
nking metal plates secured with water-proof mastic. Repeat process until he=
at sink makes temperature stabilize at one below the critical temperature (=
see machine ratings for maximum operating temperature).

Heat generated by small recorders

I want to leave my Sony M10 recording unattended for an extended period=
, and I was thinking I would fit it into a piece of foam inside a clip lock=
box, with a sheet of foam over the top before I close the lid. I.e. it wou=
ld be totally surrounded by foam.
The idea is to protect it from temperature extremes, as well as to stop it =
sliding around in the box. I'm wondering if the heat generated by the recor=
der while it's operating would build up when insulated like this to the poi=
nt where it might stop operating or cause damage. I'm guessing there won't =
be a problem unless the air temperature is quite high or it's left in direc=
t sun, but I might be underestimating how much heat it generates.
Does anyone have any experience with this?
