Dan,

I took this as a loudspeaker layout, not a mic source layout. Mics simply d=
o
not have that degree of directionality.

The question remains how to source the wildlife sounds for such an array,
and I suggested a number of separated discrete stereo microphones could
source different sounds.

It is only if the picture includes closeups of wildlife that synchronous
sound is required, and in practice with most quality TV documentaries, clos=
e
wildtrack (non-synchronous) sound is carefully edited in sync in on a shot=

obviously taken at a distance with a telephoto lens.

If non-synchronous edited sound is good enough for the big broadcasters,
It's good enough for anyone. :-) That's why I suggested combining separate=

recordings to get a surround sound effect.
