Hi! I have a DR-680 and I'm happy with it. I think the monitoring is easy on it= . I would not buy a mixer. I would put that money on a better mic. Why? Because in nature recording the levels is never ever high enough... I have never used Low gain on the recorder. It's always on high and a high setting and that's still not high enough... you will probably need to increase gain in post most of the time. There are very few occasions like a thunderstorm that will make you touch the level knobs on the recorder. Set it and forget it... :) The preamps on 680 is better (have lower noise) than most (all?) mics in your price range, so a mixer isn't needed for that either. I know that it's nice with real knobs to twist, but if you never need to twist them they are just in the way and the mixer is an extra thing to carry around and also have batteries for. So my suggestion is, buy the best (low noise) mics you can afford, but that's just my opinion. :) -- /* H=E5kan Olsson Mobil. +46 (0)762 985118 */ |
