Hi everyone. I have just joined here, so apologies in advance if I ask thin=
gs already covered or can't find my way around.=0D

I have been wanting to record in the field and have decided to take the pl=
unge. Wanting to record habitats, environments and wildlife here in the Aus=
tralian Outback.=0D
I then realised that I know little about nature and field recording - thou=
gh quite a lot about studio recording and post! =0D
So a couple of questions about kit:=0D
I decided I wanted to use a field mixer and get decent preamps. I would al=
so like to not use a handheld, even though some are pretty good. I also wan=
t some flexibility.=0D

As I am very limited in my budget, I was thinking about the Tascam DR680 a=
nd a mixer. =0D
Perhaps a second hand shure fp33-3 or even an old SQN4 -s. (I know the 680=
has preamps, but I like the monitoring to be easy, knobs, etc). I saw a co=
uple of ex abc sqn4's recently and really liked them. Another I have seen i=
s Azden (????). Would any of these be a good setup? =0D
Are there other options I should look at?=0D
 Mic wise...er...I don't know...wanted to start with Rode, perhaps an nt4n =
in a blimp and boom. A shotgun from Rode? (or anyone else?) I would also l=
ike to use a parabolic...and will probably need something like this, but in=
honesty, will probably have to make one as I can't afford to buy one.=0D
I know this is vague, but I am very excited to have joined here and would =
appreciate any opinions. Even radical ones.=0D

 Thanks for reading!=0D
