Is there no way to improve the shielding, perhaps by enclosing the recorder in
a steel box?

Thanks everyone for your responses to this.
It's not me experiencing this, but a colleague in our lab. As I work with
flying-foxes in their daytime camps, electric fences are not one of my
issues (although I certainly have plenty of others!)
My colleague works with dingo vocalisations, and is trying to record growls
from dingoes in a dingo sanctuary - hence the required proximity to an
electric fence that can't be switched off!
Looks like we might have to invest in a SD recorder (thanks for that Jez!!),
which means.anyone in the market for a Fostex FR-2LE???
Incidentally, I just have to say that this group has helped us immensely -
although not always in a way that's been good for the back pocket.
I also have to say I'm really enjoying the journey of learning wildlife
recording!
Thanks everyone!
