Damage is unlikely inside the windscreen. You could "pot" the connections w=
ith a blob of silicone sealant to strengthen and prevent condensation. Inte=
rference is unlikely in the field as long as you've shut down your cell pho=
ne. Shielding isn't very important on a balanced audio line.

Years ago K-Tek gave me a prototype minimal XLR connector designed for this=
 application. I see something longer on their web site now, but it does hav=
e a side entry for the cable.
