I should point out that a lot of that long recording I linked to is just wind noise. It was the longest recording I could find for a test. Another advantage of Youtube over Soundcloud is that there appears to be no limit to the length of the recording one can upload, providing one verifies one's account by phone (otherwise 15 minutes). I don't know what Soundcloud's file limit is, but one only gets two hours total before having to pay fees. I'm not suggesting anyone will want to upload such long recordings, but I wanted to see if it was possible. The 3 hour movie file was over 600MB. A disadvantage is that it will be harder to download audio for analysis, and I assume that once you've done that you'll find it's been compressed.
