Sorry, I misstated my claim as to the form factor. I consider the D50 a hand
recorder but NOT a pocket recorder. It is over twice the cubic volume of the
PCM-M10 and similar units, those models that I DO consider to be pocket
recorders.
Ask yourself this: Would you carry the D50 (plus a wind sock, a protective
sleeve, and mini tripod) literally everywhere with you? Every single time you
leave the house? Because that is what I do with significantly smaller
recorders.
Similar sized recorders from Samson, Olympus, and Tascam do have XLR inputs and
phantom power. This justifies the size.
Though I will state again that in my brief use of the D50 I found it excellent
in every other way.
