> You give the reason below that I use my iRig as the gain control, and not=
the LS-10 gain. As I understood it, the LS-10 is quietest on maximum gain?=
Hi Max,
Yes, the LS-10 is quietest on maximum gain, but as previously discussed her=
e, it is still quite enough at a lower gain (SENSE LOW), level 10 for most =
situations.
>On the basis of this understanding, and accepting that the iRig is a cheap=
bit of kit, is why I set LS-1O to max gain and use the iRig to set levels.=
This ensures that the higher level gain noise of the iRig is kept at the m=
inimum possible noise level for the recording in hand; am I correct?
No, this is unfortunaetly not true. The problem is that you insert the real=
ively noisy iRig preamp into the signal chain, which will finally increase =
the overall (input-referenced) noise floor.
It is usually the very first preamplifier stage (the iRig in this case) tha=
t determines the overall noise performance of any analog signal processing =
system.
Cheers,
Raimund
