Since the time difference from one ear to another is not significant enough at 
lower frequencies, we use the level difference instead. But I am pretty sure 
you know this. ;-)

Also significant is a factor almost everyone forgets, recordists too. Head 
movement plays a large part is localisation. We can move our head in a stereo 
field but NOT within a headphone, er, "field". And neither playback system 
replicates the experience of listening in a multi-source sound field, e.g. the 
original location.

Just one more reason why recordings can never replicate the richness of "being 
there". (Though fans of Ambisonics might disagree!)
