Indeed.
Predators never cause population decline in prey. Sure, if a population is
weakened by habitat loss, lack of food etc then predators may have an
effect. Likewise, if you are an island sp who has adapted to live with out
ground predators and suddenly someone introduces tiddles and ratty, then
thats going to be a problem. But in a healthy functioning system predators
never cause decline. Indeed, it's the opposite, prey availability always
determines predator population size.
