Hi Sudipto,

welcome to the group !

I tutor on course run by Wildeye here in Europe & we run courses in India o=
nce every year or so. I'm sure someone on our contact list might have some =
ideas of how best to find equipment in India. I'll ask around & let you kno=
w if I find out anything. One simple thing to do is to check on the sites o=
f the companies you are interested in. They will have links to retailers or=
distributors in your country. Ebay is an option too but you might find tha=
t import taxes push the cost up of course, but if you buy second-hand it mi=
ght be an option.

There is a field recording India group on soundcloud: http://soundcloud.com=
/groups/field-recording-india

it might be an idea to join that & some of the other members might be able =
to advise also.

on a side note: some of the earliest 'soundscape' / collage pieces with fie=
ld recordings were made in India in the early 20th century. Its not that we=
ll documented, especially here in the west but perhaps there are archives i=
n India about this.

n this egroup and hope to learn from you all. I am a hobby bird call record=
ist cum photographer. So far the focus was more on photography but graduall=
y it is tilting more towards call recording. Problem is here in Calcutta I =
just don't know anyone who records bird calls as a hobby.=A0I use a very ba=
sic Edirol R09 HR and a Rode Video Micpro for recording bird calls.=A0I am =
currently researching to graduate to a slightly more elaborate system. In f=
act my research brought me to this group (via earbirding.com). I am perhaps=
thinking of a Tascam HDP2 and a Sennheiser ME66/K6 but it will take some t=
ime. One of the problems of procuring equipment in India is lack of availab=
ility. Even if they are available they are atrociously taxed and hence doub=
le the price of what I see on B&H :-(I generally record a bird only when I =
see it. But having recently solved a mystery recording of my own, I am
> beginning to get hooked to the idea of recording whatever I hear and the=
n solve the puzzle at home. It can be an addictive pastime.=A0Thanks for re=
ading this far.Sudipto
