Hi Peter,
Sounds from other sources sound fine and natural. It is just the sounds =
that I import into the sound card! So it isn't the playback of all sounds.=
Just the ones that have been imported to Audition 1.5.?
I'm stumped!
My best,

I had a similar thing happen a couple of years ago, possibly with a
Soundblaster card too. It seems the kids had somehow got into some advanced=
settings of the card's driver and selected a mode that speeds up playback.
Have you tried playing sounds from other sources, like Youtube? If they
aren't affected then maybe it's happening at transfer time. I assume the
recorders themselves aren't doing it? My PCM M10 has a switch that allows=
playback speed to vary. Very disconcerting, but being digital it has no ef=
fect
once it's transferred to a computer.

Subject: [Nature Recordists] sppeded up recordings
Help! I have just set up a new desktop computer with a Soundblaster X-f:
Xtreme Audio sound card. I am using Adobe Auditions 1.5 for my sound
editing. I am importing sound from my Portadisc MDP 500 or my SV 3260 DAT=
through
Optical IN. (this seems to be the only option with this sound card).
However, the recordings, when played back through my computer, sound
"speeded
up". For vocal it is like someone has taken a slight puff of Helium gas.
The
imported recordings sound fine when listened through the DAT or
Minidisc. Is there someway to "slow down" the imported sounds. Sorry for
such an
amateur description, but any ideas would be most welcome.
